Why did no one tell me that W.H. Hudson grew up in Argentina and had an adventurous early life and that GREEN MANSIONS is a tropical fantasy about a mysterious jungle girl who can communicate with the birds? I just got a copy from Swansea’s marvellous free bookshop. I had always assumed W.H. Hudson was one of those boring writers like Henry James who just did domestic dramas and stuffy indoors nonsense. But no, he evidently wasn’t one of those at all. What a nice surprise!
