About
This collection has a more ‘gothicky’ flavour than most of my books and two of the stories (a novella and novelette) were directly inspired by William Hope Hodgson. The first of these got a lot of praise at the time from various critics and reviewers and was my attempt to blend the concerns of Hogdson with those of Borges. – 24.03.2014
Book Description
As E.F. Bleiler states in his Afterword: “What do I like about Rhys Hughes’s work? Fun. Hughes sees and precipitates in words the latent humour in almost anything.”
In praise of Hughes:
“‘The World Beyond the Stairwell’ may well be the finest tribute (with love) to Hodgson ever written.” – JOHN CLUTE
